Spare Pencil

About

Myself

My name is Bas, nice to meet you, too.
I am an 19 year old student, living in the Netherlands. (Not Holland!)

My interests include programming, designing and web development. Besides the usual computer stuff, I also have a favourite food, colour, animal and all that, but the list would simply be too long. (I know those lists, keep them away from me!)

Currently, I am studying Computer Science at the Utrecht University. The relevance for this website; well, the code will probably gain in quality over time.

As far as internet communities go: I am a happy member of the Lifelesspeople forums. I go by the name of ClickFanatic, in case you need to find me there. It’s where I earn my hosting, but fortunately it doesn’t consume my entire life (like the name suggests).
My musical tastes (some would argue I have none) are recorded in my Last.fm profile.

The website

This website has changed shape and purpose several times during its existence. It started as an experiment and, actually, it still is.

The main subjects of the posts that have survived past cleanups are programming and web development (two of my favourite pastimes). Based on this observation, I am trying to narrow down the written material to those subjects.

Two vital requirements for a good website are 1) specialisation on a certain subject and 2) regular updates. Point 2 is the bottle-neck at the moment.

The theme

The theme of this site changes quite frequently I think. It’s because I am never completely satisfied with the theme I have and I also like to create new ones once in a while.

The current theme is “Restless.” I think it’s my best theme for Spare Pencil yet (but that’s what I always think).

Most of the theme was done by myself, but it would probably not look as cool without the work of people like Mark James who so generously provides his awesome icons for free. I am also using a few icons provided by Zeus Box. Thanks guys!
